Escitalopram 5mg Tablet primarily acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It exerts its therapeutic effects by selectively binding to the serotonin transporter (SERT) in the brain, leading to inhibition of serotonin reuptake. This mechanism increases the extracellular level of serotonin, also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), in the synaptic cleft.
