Lacasil is an osmotic laxative syrup containing Lactitol Monohydrate (10 g per 15 ml), a synthetic disaccharide derived from lactose. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of constipation and the prevention and management of portal systemic encephalopathy (hepatic encephalopathy). Lactitol is minimally absorbed in the small intestine and reaches the colon unchanged, where it is broken down by gut bacteria into organic acids. This creates an osmotic effect that draws water into the bowel, softening stools and stimulating natural bowel movements. It is non-habit forming, has no significant effect on blood glucose levels, and is safe for diabetic patients

Composition

• Lactitol Monohydrate USP: 10 g

Directions for Use

• Should be taken once daily, in the morning or evening
• Patients should maintain an adequate daily fluid intake
• Adults: 15 to 30ml per day
• Paediatrics Above age of 6 years: 10 to 15 ml per day
• 2 to 6 years of age: 10 ml per day
• Or as directed by the physician
